The PGA Grand Slam of Golf, the season-ending showcase featuring golf's premier foursome, was held in Bermuda, for the first time in history. The event was hosted by The Mid Ocean Club, and The Fairmont Southampton and was held on Oct. 16-17, 2007. Boasting the most difficult qualification requirement in the game -- a major championship -- the 36-hole PGA Grand Slam of Golf was an incredible show by the world’s top golfers.
The winners of this year's Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship have earned a spot to compete on the 6,520-yard, par-70 layout that was designed by Charles Blair Macdonald in 1921, and modified in the 1950s by the late Robert Trent Jones Sr. Zach Johnson, Angel Cabrera, Padraig Harrington and Jim Furyk competed for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. (Jim Furyk, 2003 U.S.Open champion, replaced Tiger Woods.) Angel Cabrera came back on the second day to beat Padraig Harrington, and ultimately took home the championship.
The Mid Ocean Club received a No. 45 ranking by Golf Digest for courses outside the United States and has hosted such heads of state as Presidents George H.W. Bush and Dwight Eisenhower; Winston Churchill, The Duke of Windsor, as well as baseball icon Babe Ruth.
