First-time visitors often comment on our island’s long, rich heritage. We take great pride in that history, as seen in our historic museums.

Bermuda Historical Society Museum and the Bermuda National Library

Housed in the former home of our island’s first postmaster, the reference section of our library has virtually every book ever written about the island as well as a collection of microfilm of Bermudian newspapers dating back to 1784.

The museum contains portraits, maps, an eclectic collection of coins, Bermuda silver, Asian porcelains and pictures of horse-and-buggy Bermuda juxtaposed with modern-day scenes.

Bermuda National Trust Museum in the Globe Hotel

Governor Samuel Day built this structure in 1700. Today it is one of the oldest stone buildings on our island.

The offices of the Confederate agent, Major Norman Walker, were housed here during the American Civil War (1861–1865), which makes this significant historic building a most appropriate site for the exhibit “Rogues & Runners—Bermuda and the American Civil War.”

Whether taking in some local history, stunning views from the ramparts, or exploring Bermuda's largest fort, there is plenty to see and learn at this important cultural attraction.
